|ZYGO’S VISION SYSTEMS ANNOUNCES FOLLOW-ON ORDERS FOR AIR BEARING GEOMETRY SYSTEMS AND ROW BOW MEASUREMENT SYSTEMS|
Newbury Park, CA - (February 1, 1999) Zygo Corporation and Subsidiaries, a world leader in interferometric measuring equipment, announces they have received repeat orders from two customers for their Air Bearing Geometry Measurement Systems and their Row Bow Measurement Systems. Both customers are in the Data Storage industry.
The Air Bearing Geometry Measurement Systems measure the dimensions and locations of the etched surfaces on the latest generation of air bearing sliders. The air bearing dimensions are critical to maintaining the correct flying height of the slider over the disk. As flying heights continue to come down and disk performance continues to improve, the air bearing shapes will be crucial to proper operation. Row flatness has become more important to head performance as the form factor shrinks. With less mass and smaller areas of the head facing the disk, the flatness of the head becomes a larger part of the head performance error budget.
After the row is bonded, the Row Bow Inspection System verifies that the row is flat to required tolerances so the lapping process will be effective. ZYGO's Vision Systems has been selling Row Bow systems for over five years, however the most recent deliveries are using WindowsNT and utilize ZYGO's new ZFM 1000 Laser Focus Module.
André Perrin, Product Manager for the ZYGO's Vision Systems commented, "We are extremely pleased these two industry leaders chose our equipment to meet their stringent requirements, considering the first systems were able to improve the process to the degree that they did. Additional sales are expected as the quantities and production lines grow."
