|ZYGO CORPORATION ANNOUNCES RECORD NEW ORDERS IN THE ASIA-PACIFIC REGION FOR ITS NEWVIEW 5000 SERIES OPTICAL PROFILERS FOR DATA STORAGE CUSTOMERS|
MIDDLEFIELD, CONNECTICUT - (December 9, 1999) Zygo Corporation (NASDAQ:ZIGO) Sales to several major Data Storage customers, including Hitachi Metals at their Penang, Malaysia, facility, have resulted in orders approaching $3 million in the first half of fiscal year 2000. These units are being used in the demanding GMR head manufacturing environment, where ZYGO's proprietary and patented measurement methods have given manufacturers the speed, resolution, and the stability required to meet the demands of the newest head designs. In addition to excellent results for ABS measurements, production proven and automated PTR measurements have shown industry leading results for GRR and speed - factors that have contributed to rapid payback of investment for the GMR head manufacturers.

These new designs require our unique hardware and software abilities to profile properly. In our semiconductor business, we are seeing similar customer acceptance of our technologies with an increased order booking for our CD measurement and automation tools. These technologies combined with our regional and local service support offices in the Pac Rim are successfully addressing our customers' needs."
In addition to the recent Data Storage success, ZYGO has introduced several new product platforms to add to the NewView 5000 3D Surface Profiler family. New and improved features and capabilities include: a new (patented) data acquisition and analysis module offering superior repeatability and performance; redesigned piezo-based scanner with increased scan range, performance, and reliability; vertical scan and autofocus range up to 5 mm; a 1X and 100X objective, as well as a complete line of long-working distance objectives.
