ZYGO Announces New Performance Capabilities for Optimizing Interferometric Metrology in Production Environments
New System Provides Stable Metrology Results in Adverse Operating Environments, Reducing the Cost of Implementing Precision Metrology

MIDDLEFIELD, CT, Apr. 13, 2004 (MARKET WIRE via COMTEX) -- (NASDAQ: ZIGO) Supporting the aerospace, defense, and optical industries for metrology in unstable environments is ZYGO's new high speed FlashPhase™ interferometry. Vibration and air turbulence limit the performance of interferometry on mission critical optics and production floor testing. FlashPhase™ freezes turbulent environments without compromising the interferometer's standard high performance, representing a significant breakthrough.

"We are very excited by the positive response to this technology," said Robert Smythe, Corporate Vice President and Director of Interferometry products. "FlashPhase™ offers our customers a cost effective solution that retains all the previous performance of ZYGO systems while extending their use to unstable environments making it more versatile and ultimately more valuable."

The FlashPhase™ ability to operate in adverse environments gives customers wider options for implementing ZYGO precision metrology solutions. "Our goal is to cost effectively increase the usability and performance of our customers' ZYGO equipment," added Don Battistoni, Product Manager. "We believe FlashPhase™ achieves that objective."

FlashPhase™ acquires phase data in a single camera frame, with shutter speeds down to 30 microseconds in standard configurations. For applications where faster shuttering is required, special interferometer configurations are available upon request. FlashPhase™ extends ZYGO interferometer performance and retains all the power of standard PMI interferometry used in research & development and quality control. FlashPhase™ is available as an option on new systems and as an upgrade on virtually all previously sold ZYGO systems.

Zygo Corporation (NASDAQ: ZIGO), headquartered in Middlefield, Connecticut, is a worldwide supplier of optical metrology instruments, precision optics, and electro-optical design and manufacturing services, serving customers in the semiconductor capital equipment and industrial industries.
