AMETEK Essential Businesses Remain Open During COVID-19 Outbreak
To all our Customers and Suppliers:
During the past week, some U.S. States, counties and local authorities have enacted measures to close non-essential businesses to slow the spread of COVID-19. Many countries around the world are taking similar precautions to limit the spread of the virus. We continue to monitor these developments and carefully review every one of these announcements to ensure AMETEK remains in compliance with the measures. To this point, we have received approval to continue to operate at every location where we have requested an exemption and where a decision has been rendered.
We are receiving these approvals because AMETEK is an essential manufacturer that supports life-sustaining industries. We manufacture, service and provide support to customers in critical industries, such as healthcare research and development, medical devices, mission critical hospital communications, food quality, power generation, energy infrastructure, and aerospace and defense.
As an example, our Rauland business is receiving urgent requests for our critical communications systems for expanded hospital bed capacity. At our Power Systems and Instruments division, we are seeing increased demand for uninterruptable power systems for medical device manufacturers of diagnostic equipment used to increase COVID-19 testing capacity. One of our recent acquisitions, Gatan, produces analytical instrumentation used by research institutions and universities to identify the structure of the virus and accelerate the development of antibodies and vaccines. The first time the coronavirus was structured by researchers at the University of Texas, it was using Gatan, as well as AMETEK TMC, equipment. Lastly, our Advanced Motion Solutions division is providing motion control solutions to medical device manufacturers for use in diagnostic testing equipment for the rapid and automated detection of the coronavirus.
These are just a few examples of how AMETEK's products are not only essential to critical industries but are being utilized directly in the fight against the coronavirus. We are very proud of this and will continue supporting our customers in this battle.
Also, on March 19th, the United States Government issued updated guidance for America. The guidance included the following statement: "If you work in a critical infrastructure industry, as defined by the Department of Homeland Security ... you have a special responsibility to maintain your normal work schedule."
We've made the important decision to maintain operations during the COVID-19 crisis because AMETEK products are essential and critical to the global economy. This decision will not come at the expense of our employees' safety. Across the company, we take seriously the need to reduce the spread of the virus. Employees whose jobs allow them to work from home should do so. In cases where remote work is not possible, we are taking precautions to improve safety for all. These measures include social distancing, staggering shifts, restricting visitors, increasing cleaning and disinfecting protocols, and continuously monitoring the health and well-being of our employees.
The work we do to support our customers has never been more critical. We thank all of our employees for their extraordinary efforts. And we thank you, our customers and suppliers, for your continued patience and cooperation as we all work through these unusual and difficult circumstances.
Stay strong, stay positive, and stay safe.
